Republican Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth confirmed she's staying in the race for Minnesota governor. Demuth and running mate Ryan Wilson held a press conference Tuesday to announce they will pursue the GOP nomination in Minnesota's August primary, despite Demuth's original pledge to abide by the party's endorsement. "Our intent is to take that message that we have been talking about the entire time we entered the race, and make sure that Minnesotans are given a fair chance to put a Republican to finally defeat Amy Klobuchar on the ballot," Demuth said in a news conference on the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol. "We have heard across the state those issues that are important, the issues of affordability, our education for our kids, making sure that there's a business economy that can grow and thrive here, lowering our taxes so Minnesota, once again, is affordable, and above all, ending fraud here in the state of Minnesota." Businessman Kendall Qualls received the official party endorsement at the state party convention last weekend. However, Minnesota GOP Chair Alex Plechash appeared to leave a door open for Demuth to challenge the results of the nominating convention, citing a "significant disruption" in the fifth round of balloting. MyPillow founder Mike Lindell is also planning to challenge Qualls in the Aug. 11 Republican primary. The DFL Party announced they have nominated Senator Amy Klobuchar for Governor. Current Minnesota Tim Walz announced earlier this year he will not seek reelection in November.
