A St. Cloud man was arrested on Saturday after a standoff with police. St. Cloud Police officers responded to the 200 block of 20th Avenue N at around 3:40 p.m. for a threats complaint. While on scene, officers developed probable cause to arrest 35-year-old Twon Pablo Hiroshima for assaulting and threatening a 29-year-old woman. Police say Hiroshima refused to surrender, and the St. Clod SWAT team was called in to negotiate with him. Authorities secured a search warrant for Hiroshima's residence and made entry at 7:40 p.m. Officers were able to arrest Hiroshima without further incident. Police brought Hiroshima to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained when falling during the arrest and due to intoxication. Hiroshima was booked into the Stearns County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic assault and felony threats of violence. No officers were hurt during the incident.

An equipment shed is a total loss following a fire Sunday morning in Holding Township. According to a press release from the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, the 911 call came in around 10:44 from the 64-year-old property owner saying his shed was on fire. He explained to dispatchers he had started a fire in the woodstove in the 40′ x 110′ building and left the door open slightly to help get it going before heading to another part of the property to tend to his cattle. A short time later, he saw flames and smoke pouring out of the shed, which was already too far gone for him to put out on his own. Fire departments from Bowlus and Holdingford responded, along with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Mayo Ambulance. They were able to get the blaze under control, but the building and everything inside have been deemed a total loss. No one was hurt.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is still actively investigating the disappearance of a St. John’s University student who first went missing over two decades ago. On November 9th, 2002, Joshua Guimond attended a party with friends at SJU. What started as a normal Saturday night turned into a nightmare. After leaving the party, Guimond was never seen again. The party was on the north end of campus, and Guimond lived in an apartment at St. Maur House, a short walk away. At the time of the disappearance, the family said it was unlike Guimond to be out of contact for long periods of time. Guimond’s car was located on campus during the initial search, but no one was inside. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a gray SJU sweatshirt. Anyone with information that could help solve the case is asked to call Investigator Joel Schmidt at 320-257-8962 or Lieutenant Zach Sorenson at 320-259-3732.

National News: The Senate officially passed a funding bill Monday night after a decisive final vote, moving one step closer to ending the prolonged government shutdown. The spending package will still need approval from the House and President Trump's signature before the government can reopen.  The final Senate vote, 60-40, broke a grueling stalemate that lasted more than six weeks. During the final votes, the Senate blocked a Democratic effort to extend expiring health care subsidies for one year.  Ahead of the final vote on Monday, House Speaker Mike Johnson urged lawmakers to return to Washington "right now." The House has been on an unprecedented recess since mid-September, so lawmakers are scattered across the U.S., and many may face travel delays due to FAA-mandated flight cuts prompted by the shutdown.  If the House approves the funding bill without any changes, the legislation would then move to President Trump's desk. The Republican president acknowledged Monday that he'll abide by the proposed shutdown deal. The president said, “I would say so,” when asked earlier Monday whether he backs the agreement to end the shutdown that was winding its way through the Senate.
