Sunday events include the final day of the Morrison County Fair with Miniature Horse Show at 9am, open class sheep, meat goat, beef and swine show at 9am, Raising a Farmer BBQ contest at 11am. Carnival starts at noon, Kids Day events all afternoon on Sunday face painting, RC Car Races, Rural Arts, Hillbilly Bob, Kids Pedal Tractor Pull, James Wedgewood at times a comedian, and Autocross at the grandstand at 1pm. Also the Morrison County United Way Ball Drop will be at 2pm on the east end of the fairgrounds, Minnesota Power drops the balls, closest to the flag wins the $500 prize, other $100 prizes will be drawn. Also Sunday is the final days of Todd and Cass County Fairs, St. Elizabeth's of Brennyville Church Bazaar on Sunday Mass at 10am raffle at 4pm, St. Mathias Church Bazaar on Sunday near Ft. Ripley Mass at 10am, chicken dinner at 11am and raffle at 4pm. Bennington's Charity Classic of cornhole and bowling Sunday at 1pm proceeds to the Children's Miracle Network.
The motorcycle rider who died in a fatal crash in Douglas County has been identified. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says the rider of the motorcycle was 65-year-old James Schlosser of Alexandria. The Sheriff's Office says the incident happened on Thursday, just after 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 45 and Lakota Drive Southwest. A North Memorial Ambulance was nearby when the call was dispatched and was on the scene within minutes. Douglas County Deputies and Alexandria Police Officers also arrived and found Schlosser, who was the rider of the motorcycle. Schlosser was taken to the Alomere Health Hospital, where he died. The driver of the pickup was a 16-year-old boy from Alexandria. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with crash reconstruction.
Another motorcycle driver was seriously hurt in an accident with an SUV near Milaca on Highway 23 around 5pm Friday in Mille Lacs County. 40-year-old Timothy Anderson of Shoreview stopped at the Highway 23 and intersection with another vehicle and both moved forward simultaneously and collided. Anderson was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in the Twin Cities with serious but non life threatening injuries. The other driver was not injured in the accident.
Saturday there were many accidents reported by the State Patrol including a car vs bicycle accident in Monticello that sent the bicyclist to a Twin Cities Hospital. Three accidents in Stearns County, 2 in Cass County near the fairgrounds in Pine River, a fatal accident in Redwood County and another was reported in Olmsted County. Remember to slow down as extra law enforcement will be out through the 4th of July holiday weekend watching for impaired, speeding and distracted drivers on the roadways.
The latest drought monitor shows Cass, northern Crow Wing County and areas north in the extreme drought conditions, northern Morrison County and Mille Lacs County still shows moderate drought even with the rainfall recently in the area. Little Falls and areas to the southwest are currently not on the drought monitor at this time. The only area with the extreme drought conditions in the southwestern corner of the state as of the latest reported on June 25th.
The latest Little Falls Police Report last week stated on June 23rd a hit and run accident reported on 9th Street Northeast in Little Falls, photos and information was taken, thefts of bicycles from a bike cart on 1st Street. Accident on Haven Road on the 22nd and the 24th, accident on the bridge of Highway 27 on the 24th. They continue to get trespassing complaints in town, assist with Pierz Police in finding the missing woman on Monday night, again the sheriff's office noted she was found safe.
