Superintendent of Little Falls Community Schools Greg Johnson spoke on KLTF Thursday morning he mentioned the people at the meeting and what was discussed. There is a feedback type survey available online the link was on Thursday news page asking the thoughts and ideas from the school district on the recent decision by the school board in the 2027-2028 school year to close the Middle School and give the building to the City of Little Falls and then make Lindbergh to 6th grade and 7th and 8th joining the High School. The next step is to have a work session on November 25th and what was discussed and then at the December 8th board meeting take action on going forward with the closing procedure of the school and giving the plan in place to the state, then the state would have to decide if the plan makes sense and return to the board with decision to then have taxpayers vote on it as early as April 14th of next year to a body type question of additional funding to give for the high school to be repurposed to add class size space for 7th and 8th grade students to join. Lindbergh Elementary is not needing any updates but the 53 year old high school need some work done that would be in the bonding question the school would ask those to vote on next year. Also Johnson said only (possible) at this time that Gym Size was talked about recently and the possibly of a second question added to the bonding vote next year of creating more gym space and size to accommodate all the high school teams and also middle school students also by the 2027 fall school year. Again right now they are asking for those to take the survey online or view the meeting also on the school U Tube page or again the link on Thursdays news page on the school story to see the latest and view the next steps that are being taken. Question contact Johnson at gjohnson@lfalls.k12.mn.us or call Johnson at 320-632-2001.
The St. Cloud Police Department has released new information on a violent crash on County Road 75 and Traverse Road last week. Police say the 15-year-old boy who was critically hurt in the crash has now died. Everyone else involved in the crash has been treated at the hospital and released. The name of the boy was not released in the police report. St. Cloud Police were called to the intersection of County Road 75 and Traverse Road at around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4th. Officers arrived to find a 15-year-old boy in the front passenger seat unconscious and not breathing. The backseat passenger in the vehicle was pinned inside and had to be extricated. She was taken to St. Cloud Hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the driver of the car, 22-year-old Anwar Kahlin, was northbound on County Road 75 and was turning left onto Traverse Road on a green light when his car was struck by a southbound car that also had a green light. Kahlin was ticketed for failure to yield the right-of-way and brought to St. Cloud Hospital with minor injuries. The Department of Children, Youth and Families has received information that there is a new scam by text, email and phone that may be going to SNAP recipients. Stearns County said they are aware of this scam that tells recipients that they need to repay their benefits. That is not correct and people shouldn't be worried about having to repay their benefits. SNAP said they would never ask people to repay benefits. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits will be paid on time in November. She says because a judge in Rhode Island ordered the Federal Government to pay November benefits in full, Minnesota went ahead and issued those benefits last Friday, November 7. On Saturday, November 8, the USDA asked for the funds back but Minnesota doesn't have a mechanism to get the money back.
A Wright County judge has set bail at $2 million for the man accused of beating his coworker to death with a sledgehammer. According to the criminal complaint, police were called Tuesday morning around 6:00 to Advance Process Technologies in Cokato after a woman was found dead at her work station. First responders and police arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. A fellow employee, 40-year-old David Bruce Delong, confessed to another employee that he assaulted the woman, identified by family as 20-year-old Amber Czech, with a hammer, and “she is gone.” Police reviewed surveillance footage, which shows Delong leaving his workstation and walking over to the woman, picking up a sledgehammer, and hitting her with it, knocking her to the ground. She is off camera, but investigators say the video shows he continued to hit her. Court papers say he confessed to investigators he didn’t like the woman and had been planning to kill her “for some time.” Delong is charged with one count of second degree murder with intent, not premeditated. The Honorable Judge Kari Willis set bail at $2 million with conditions, which include surrendering his passport and any firearms, remaining law abiding, and having no contact with the Czech family. Bail is $5 million without. Delong’s next court date is set for November 24th.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reports that the 2025 rifle hunting deer season is off to a strong start. Through Wednesday, 108,736 bucks and does had been bagged across the state. The most robust hunting areas are mostly within an hour of St. Cloud. With 4,331 deer killed, the most productive area is Zone 241 near Wadena and Perham. Nipping at its heels is Zone 213 around Alexandria at 4,009. Zones 214, 215, 221, and 225 all have over 3,000 kills recorded. Those make up parts of Morrison, Mille Lacs, and Isanti Counties. In 2024, the state notched roughly 170,000 kills throughout the entire season. The 200- and 300-series zones will see the guns die down this Sunday at sunset. The 100 series in the northeast part of the state will still be able to pack their freezers full of venison through next weekend. There remains a good chance this year’s harvest improves on what was managed last fall. Good luck to the hunters out again today and through the weekend from Little Falls Radio.
