Slippery sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and some roadways this morning as temps stayed above freezing overnight but enough to make some areas slick. Mist, fog and clouds today in the 30s will drop into the 20s tonight with slippery roads possible Saturday. Saturday night winds get gusty and rain and snow is possible overnight Saturday into Sunday morning with falling temps and windy conditions on Sunday making for slippery spots on roadways and sidewalks, and poor visibility with blowing snow at times Sunday. Though today is Friday, the day after Christmas a Federal announcement earlier this week by President Donald Trump declared that federal offices had the OK to not be open the day after Christmas and reopen on Monday, December 29th for the long weekend. This means some federal offices and state offices may be closed today on Friday. Many banks, post offices and other businesses are reopening today and there will be regular mail delivery and package parcel service today. Most city and county offices are reopened after the Christmas break, but again some may have opted to take today off so best to check ahead. Most food places and big box stores opened up again today with many getting ready for exchanges this day after Christmas.
A Burnsville woman and a 2 year old were injured Christmas Day in a two-vehicle accident in Villard Township of Todd County. Around 6pm, Aaliyah Bellanger, age 20 was traveling on Highway 10 at mile marker 10 when a 40-year-old from Brainerd turned out of the median and the two vehicles collided. The Brainerd woman had no injuries. Bellanger and a 2 year old passenger were both taken to an area hospital for their injuries.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reported that with the lack of snowfall in southwestern Minnesota and even areas west of St. Cloud some parks have opted to due some control burns in the next few weeks. Usually done before the frost and freeze warnings start up, with warming temperatures and snow melt Cold Spring, Spicer, Willmar, Redwood Falls, Marshall and other community parks and wildlife refuge areas are doing control burns in the next few weeks if the weather allows it. With temps in the 30s and 40s today and Saturday and another round of temps in the 30s and 40s after the New Year the DNR though the time was right for some of the these parks to have control burns. So don't be alarmed if any of the parks have some smoke coming from it in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Weather- fog in the morning, then cloudy today with high 35. Fog and mist, some freeze fog overnight, temps drop to around 26 early then rise into Saturday. Saturday partly sunny, high 41, then Saturday night temps drop to 15 overnight with winds gusting to 30mph. Rain, freezing rain and snow is possible between 3am and noon on Sunday with temps dropping to 9 above by late morning and down to -2 Sunday night with wind chills around -20 or colder during the afternoon and evening hours Sunday. Very little snow accumulations if any is expected Sunday. Monday sunny and cold, high 10 above then temps rise Monday night into the 20s by Tuesday with cloudy skies, some light snow possible by Tuesday night.
Sports: Vikings get 6 turnovers in beating Detroit 23-10 yesterday at U.S. Bank Stadium to go to 8-8 on the season and eliminating the Lions from the playoffs. Jordan Addison 65 year TD run in the 4th quarter sealed the win. The Vikings wrap up the regular season next Sunday January 4th at home vs. Green Bay. Also on Christmas Day in the NFL Dallas beat Washington 30-23 and Denver beat Kansas City 20-13. Timberwolves get 44 from Anthony Edwards, 32 from Julius Randle and 21 from Jaden McDaniels but lost in a wild ending in Overtime 142-138 to Denver last night as Nikola Jokic had 56 points, 16 rebounds and 15 assists and a big overtime for the win. Other NBA winners Christmas Day were New York, San Antonio, Golden State and Houston. Gopher Football today at 2:30pm vs. New Mexico in the Rate Bowl in Arizona.
